Smith Named a MAC West Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University senior quarterback Kent Smith of Toledo (Ohio) Start High School has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Chippewas' 21-17 win over Toledo Saturday.

Kent Smith completed 20-of-36 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns and ran 23 times for 89 yards and a score in the win, which drew CMU (5-3 overall, 4-1 MAC) into a tie for first place in the MAC West.

Smith tossed touchdown passes to Damien Linson (17 yards) and Justin Harper (11 yards) in the first and fourth quarter, respectively, and scored on a one-yard run in the third period. On the Chippewas' three scoring drives, Smith was a combined 10-of-12 passing for 111 yards and ran eight times for 37 yards. It was the 10th time in his career that he has run and thrown for a touchdown in the same game.

This marks the third time this season Smith has been tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week. He collected the honor following CMU's wins at Miami on Sept. 10 and over Ohio on Oct. 15. Smith's three selections are tied for the most player of the week awards for a single player in the MAC this season.
