Florida Running Back Commits to CMU

The Central Michigan University football program received a verbal commitment last night from one of the top running backs in the state of Florida this season.

Chippewas Insider has learned that running back Carl Volny (5-10, 185) of Pembroke Pines (Fla.) Charter High School made a verbal commitment to Central Michigan University last night.

Volny joins his cousin and Pembroke Pines Charter teammate, Kitoko Poblah, in committing to the Chippewas for their 2006 recruiting class. Poblah, who made his pledge to CMU Dec. 20 following an official visit, was recruited as a safety.

A three-year varsity starter for the Jaguars, Volny holds 10 rushing records for Pembroke Pines Charter, including career totals of 3,206 yards rushing and 38 touchdowns. This season Volny rushed 112 times for 899 yards (8.0 average) in just six games as the Jaguars season was shortened by Hurricane Wilma.

Volny reportedly chose CMU over offers from Colorado State and Ole Miss. He was recently named 1st Team All-Broward County by the Miami Herald and also played in the Broward County Athletic Association North/South All-Star game.

Volny becomes the tenth known verbal commitment and the fourth Floridian in the Chippewas 2006 recruiting class.
