Smith led the East squad on a pair of touchdown drives. His 17-yard toss to Hill was part of a 20-point second quarter for the East, while he later engineered a 12-play, 62-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter that bumped the lead to 34-3. The march featured three third-down conversions, including a 40-yard pass from Smith to Matt Henshaw (Florida State) on third-and-eight.

Smith leaves Central Michigan either holding or sharing eight school records for passing and total offense. He completed a school-record 255 yards for 2,799 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 433 yards and seven scores in 2005. Smith is the only quarterback to pass for 300 yards and run for 100 (356 passing, 122 rushing) in the same game and is just the third CMU quarterback to throw for at least 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons.
