Michigan Standout Commits to the Chippewas

The Central Michigan University football program continued its instate recruiting success with another verbal commitment from a standout Michigan player.

Chippewas Insider has learned that defensive back Vince Agnew (5-11, 180) of Grand Rapids (Mich.) Catholic Central High School made a verbal commitment to Central Michigan yesterday.

Agnew took an official visit to CMU this past weekend. He becomes the eighth Michigan prep player in the Chippewas' 2006 recruiting class.

A great all-around player, Agnew helped lead Grand Rapids Catholic Central to the Michigan Division 4 state title game this season. Offensively, Agnew had 23 catches for 432 yards and four touchdowns and 70 rushes for 606 yards and seven TDs.

On defense, Agnew garnered 24 solo and 27 assisted tackles and five interceptions. He also led the Cougars with 13 kickoff returns for 394 yards and two TDs. He could play safety or cornerback for the Chippewas.

A teammate of University of Michigan commitment Obi Ezeh at Catholic Central, Agnew was an all-state and all-area selection this year for the Cougars.

Agnew also reports an offer from Western Michigan University where he had scheduled a visit for this weekend. Agnew has reportedly canceled that visit after committing to CMU yesterday.
