Barrett Named MAC Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University junior forward Sefton Barrett of Brampton (Ont.) Chinguacousy Secondary School was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.

Sefton Barrett averaged a double-double of 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds last week as the Chippewas took MAC undefeated Akron to overtime and won on the road at Buffalo, snapping the Bulls' 13-game home winning streak.

He had 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in the win over Buffalo, going 5-for-8 from the floor and 10-for-14 from the line while also notching a block and three steals. Barrett just missed a double-double in the overtime loss to Akron when he had 15 points and nine rebounds.

For the season, Barrett is averaging 13.6 points, a team-high 6.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He ranks 12th in the MAC in scoring, eighth in rebounding and tied for fourth in blocked shots. In MAC games only, he is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game which ranks second in the league.

The Chippewas are 3-12 overall and 1-6 in the MAC. CMU plays at Ball State tonight. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
