Florida Standout to Visit CMU

The Central Michigan University football program has one scholarship remaining for its 2006 recruitng class. That scholarship has been offered to a Florida wide receiver who is scheduled to visit the Chippewas this weekend.

Chippewas Insider has learned that wide receiver Phillip Garner (5-10, 175) of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas High School has scheduled an official visit to Central Michigan University this weekend (Jan. 27-29).

Garner is a teammate at St. Thomas Aquinas of running back Marcel Archer, who recently committed to CMU. Garner is a return specialist. This season he returned 26 punts for 325 yards to help lead the No. 4 nationally ranked Raiders to a 13-1 record and the Florida Class 5A state title game.

If Garner commits to CMU, he would become the 27th and final player in the Chippewas' 2006 recruiting class.

Next Wednesday (Feb. 1) is national signing day, the first day high school recruits can sign a binding letter-of-intent with a respective college or university.
