Watson Named Honorable Mention All-MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University sophomore Giordan Watson of Birmingham (Mich.) Groves High School was named honorable mention All-Mid-American Conference by the league office on Thursday. The All-MAC teams are voted on by the conference coaches.

Giordan Watson led Central Michigan in scoring with 13.8 points per game. He was one of only two Chippewas to start all 28 games. Watson averaged 37.8 minutes per game, one of the top marks in the league. He averaged 4.43 assists and 1.54 steals per game, along with hitting 41 three-pointers.

The point guard currently ranks in five categories of the MAC statistical leaders: 10th in scoring (13.8); fifth in assists (4.43); 14th in free throw percentage (.762); tied for ninth in steals (1.54); and ninth in assist/turnover ratio (1.08).

Watson had five 20-point games this season, including 30 against MAC regular season champion Kent State on Jan. 7. That mark was a season high for the team.

Watson's 124 assists on the year were five short of joining CMU's season top 10 list.

MAC champion Kent State swept the other two awards that were announced on Thursday. Guard DeAndre Haynes was named MAC Player of the Year while Jim Christian was tabbed MAC Coach of the Year.
