Simon Says: It's CMU

He had offers from Wisconsin and DePaul, but in the end, this standout shooting guard decided to play his college basketball in the Mid-American Conference for Central Michigan University.

PrepSpotlight.com is reporting that 6-foot-5 shooting guard Chase Simon of Detroit Community High School has made a verbal commitment to Central Michigan University.

Rated the 29th best shooting guard in the nation by Scout.com, Simon reported offers from Wisconsin, DePaul, Xavier and Dayton, among other Division I schools. He played this summer for Norm Oden's Michigan Mustangs AAU program.

"Chase is a very versatile player," Oden said. "He can play the one, two, or three position. This summer he played the point for me. Chase is a tremendous shooter and ball handler. He looks to make those around him better.

"This is a great get for CMU," Oden added. "They're on their way."

A starter since his freshman year at Detroit Community, Simon was a consensus Michigan all-stater last season as a junior.

Simon becomes the first verbal commitment for former UCLA assistant turned CMU head coach, Ernie Zeigler, who is a native of Detroit.
