Heeke and Kelly Release Official Statements

Central Michigan University head football coach Brian Kelly and Director of Athletics Dave Heeke have issued statements regarding published reports linking Kelly to head coaching vacancies at Michigan State and Iowa State.

Brian Kelly:

The past 48 hours have been filled with many rumors and innuendo that have incorrectly linked me to accepting positions at other schools. After following the proper procedures, I was contacted by both Michigan State University and Iowa State University regarding their job openings. I am flattered by their interest and how they regard the Central Michigan University football program. I feel that CMU is a great fit for me and I am excited to be the head football coach here. I am committed to CMU and looking forward to both our MAC Championship Game appearance this week and upcoming bowl game.

Dave Heeke:

We are pleased to have Brian Kelly as our head coach and we want him to continue in that position. Brian and I have been in discussions for quite some time regarding a contract extension and look forward to reaching a conclusion on an extension. It is a compliment to our program and to Brian's abilities as a coach that he would be linked to numerous job searches. The interest from other institutions in contacting Brian regarding their job openings does not surpise me. It's something that is common with experiencing success at this level. Brian is an outstanding football coach and we are thrilled that he will continue providing the leadership necessary to continue restoring the championship tradition of Central Michigan football.
