Florida Defensive End Commits to CMU

The Central Michigan University football program has received a verbal commitment from a player on the nation's No. 1 rated high school team for the upcoming season.

Chippewas Insider has learned that defensive end Jamal Collins of Miami Northwestern High School recently made a verbal commitment to Central Michigan University.

A 6-foot-2, 220-pounder with 4.6 speed, Collins is expected to help lead Northwestern in its quest for a national championship this season.

Rated the nation's top prep team for 2007, the Bulls finished 15-0 and No. 5 in the nation last season. Northwestern was also crowned Florida's Class 6A state champion in 2006.

Collins becomes the fifth verbal commitment and first Florida player in the Chippewas 2008 recruiting class. He joins tight end David Blackburn, cornerback Lavarus Williams, offensive lineman Darren Keyton and wide receiver Valtorrey Showers.
