Michigan Linebacker Commits to the Chippewas

The Central Michigan University football program hosted some key recruits this past weekend and has been rewarded with a verbal commitment from one of the finest linebackers in the state of Michigan's 2008 class.

Chippewas Insider has learned that linebacker Armond Staten of Inkster (Mich.) High School verbally committed to Central Michigan Sunday night following a visit to campus.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Staten had reportedly been on campus Sunday with a handful of other priority CMU recruits for Chippewa Day.

Staten will be a three-year varsity starter this season for Inkster. In two seasons he's compiled 34 sacks and forced three fumbles from his defensive end position. Last year he helped lead Inkster to a 12-2 record and a trip to the Michigan Division 6 State Championship game.

Staten becomes the fifth Michigan prep player and the eighth overall verbal commitment in the Chippewas 2008 recruiting class.
