Indiana Standout Commits to CMU

The Central Michigan University football program has received a verbal commitment from one of the top players in the state of Indiana.

Chippewas Insider has learned that offensive lineman Grant Cartwright of Chesterton (Ind.) High School has given a verbal commitment to Central Michigan University.

A 6-foot-5, 245-pounder, Cartwright chose the Chippewas over offers from Miami University, Ball State and Eastern Michigan. His brother Heath Cartwright plays at Miami.

Cartwright becomes the 10th known overall verbal commitment in CMU's 2008 recruiting class and the second offensive lineman, joining Darren Keyton of Traverse City (Mich.) West High School.

Cartwright also joins two fellow Hoosiers in this class, cornerback Lavarus Williams of Indianapolis Ben Davis High School, and running back Bryan Schroeder of Corydon (Ind.) North Harrison High School.

Cartwright becomes the third Chesterton player this season to verbally commit to a Mid-American Conference school. Earlier this year offensive tackle Sam Jaeger committed to Western Michigan while Chesteron quarterback Alex Beierwalter committed to Eastern Michigan.

The Chippewas could add as many as three more offensive linemen in this recruiting class.
