Florida Wide Receiver Commits to CMU

The Central Michigan University football program, winner of back-to-back Mid-American Conference championships, has received a verbal commitment from one of the top wide receivers in Florida.

Chippewas Insider has learned that wide receiver Jerry Harris of Boca Raton (Fla.) High School verbally committed to Central Michigan Monday night.

Harris, a 6-foot-3, 185-pounder, took his official visit to CMU the weekend of Dec. 7. He chose the Chippewas over offers from Eastern Michigan, Louisiana, Southern Mississippi and Akron.

This season for Boca Raton, Harris caught 15 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns. Saturday Dec. 15, he competed in the Outback Steakhouse All-Star game, consisting of the top senior players in Florida's Palm Beach County.

Harris becomes the seventh Florida commitment and 18th verbal overall in CMU's 2008 recruiting class. The Chippewas could add as many as three more players in their '08 class.

Among the players CMU is recruiting are defensive end Sean Ferguson of Miami Norland High School and quarterback/athlete Coley White of Daphne (Ala.) High School.
