CMU/WMU Rivalry Trophy to Debut Saturday

MOUNT PLEASANT - The winner of Saturday's football game between Central Michigan and Western Michigan will take home some hardware to add to the trophy case.

The student government associations at Central Michigan and Western Michigan have collaborated to create the CMU-WMU Rivalry Trophy. Beginning this season, the trophy will be presented annually to the winner of the Central-Western football game.

One side of the wood statue is maroon and lists each of CMU's victories over the Broncos. The opposite side is brown and notes each of the Broncos' wins in the series.

A cannon sits atop the trophy, representing the cannon that is fired at CMU's Kelly/Shorts Stadium and WMU's Waldo Stadium.

Saturday's game is also the first matchup in the round-robin competition for the Michigan MAC Trophy. Sponsored by the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, the Michigan MAC Trophy is presented annually to the team with the best round-robin record between Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan. Eastern Michigan won the trophy in 2007.

Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for noon at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
