Super Sunday for Toledo, Dantin is a Rocket

In a recruiting battle that went down to the wire, Tallahassee (Fla.) Leon High School quarterback Austin Dantin committed to Toledo over MAC West rival Central Michigan moments ago. Chippewas Insider talked with Dantin about his decision.

It came down to Mid-American Conference West rivals Central Michigan and Toledo for standout quarterback Austin Dantin of Tallahassee (Fla.) Leon High School.

Moments ago, Dantin made his decision, committing to the Rockets over the Chippewas.

"I just called (CMU head) coach (Butch) Jones and told him I was committing to Toledo," Dantin said. "I feel extremely comfortable with Toledo and they have a great civil engineering program, which is what I want to study.

"Although the Toledo coaches are young, I felt extremely comfortable around them," Dantin added. "I like the CMU coaches too. It was a very tough decision."

The Chippewas will likely turn to Holland (Mich.) Christian standout quarterback A.J. Westendorp, who took an official visit to CMU this weekend. Westendorp led Holland Christian to a state title this season and is rated the No. 34 prospect in Michigan this year by the Detroit Free Press.

Dantin, who is rated among the top dual-threat quarterbacks in Florida this season, said he is excited at the prospect of playing in the MAC with its tradition of great quarterbacks.

"It makes me feel good to join such a great conference of quarterbacks with the likes of Dan LeFevour, Ben Roethlisberger and Bruce Gradkowski."
