Westendorp is a Chippewa

Holland (Mich.) Christian quarterback A.J. Westendorp verbally committed to Central Michigan University earlier this evening. He talked about his decision with Chippewas Insider.

At around 5:50 p.m., A.J. Westendorp was in church when his cell phone began to vibrate.

After the service concluded 10 minutes later, the Holland (Mich.) Christian High School quarterback returned the call to Central Michigan head coach Butch Jones.

"Coach Jones was calling to offer me a scholarship," Westendorp said. "I quickly called my parents at home to tell them, then called coach Jones back and committed to CMU. God provided and I know CMU is where I'm supposed to be."

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Westendorp had just returned from an official visit to CMU earlier in the day.

"The visit was great," Westendorp said. "I'm looking forward to being a part of the CMU program. I'm going to work very hard."

Westendorp completed a record-setting season for Holland Christian in which he led the Maroons to an undefeated campaign and state championship. A consensus first team All-State quarterback, Westendorp is rated the No. 34 prospect in Michigan this year by the Detroit Free Press.

His commitment is likely the final piece to one of the finest recruiting classes in the history of CMU football.
