CMU Looks to Tap Rockford Pipeline Again

The Central Michigan football program has produced some great NFL talent over the years, including offensive linemen Joe Staley and Adam Kieft, who both prepped at Rockford (Mich.) High School. The Chippewas hope to land yet another standout Rockford offensive lineman in Parker Ehinger.

Rockford (Mich.) High School offensive lineman Parker Ehinger (6-8, 265) is part of a small but talented 2011 lineman class in the state of Michigan and perhaps the Midwest.

Central Michigan fans should be familiar with Rockford High School as it produced three of the Chippewas' most decorated players in Adam Kieft, Joe Staley, and Bryan Anderson.

Ehinger currently has two offers as the evaluation period kicks into high gear and he begins touring colleges.

"Toledo and Central Michigan offered me full rides and I think Michigan State is close to offering me," Ehinger said. "Other schools showing interest are Western Michigan, Missouri and Cincinnati."

Chippewas Insider talked with Ehinger to get the latest on his recruitment and his interest level in CMU.

Kyle Warber: I am sure at practice you guys talk about players like Joe Staley and Adam Kieft making it to the NFL after four years at CMU. Does that Rockford to CMU connection make you feel any more comfortable with posible signing with CMU?

Parker Ehinger: Yes, it does make me feel a lot better about them because all the Rockford guys that have gone there have had great results so I do indeed feel more comfortable about CMU.

KW: What are your strengths?

PE: I would have to say I'm a hard worker and I come to practice everyday to improve and build myself and train hard too.

KW: What are your weaknesses?

PE: I would say I'm kind of a quiet guy, but I'm working hard to be a better leader for my team.

KW: What is your impression of the new coaches at CMU?

PE: Well, I have had a chance to meet coach (Dan)Enos before when he was still at Michigan State and he came in and talked to me now that he's at CMU. Coach (Mike) Cummings the (CMU) O- line coach has come in and talked to me and they both seem like nice guys - guys you can get along with and guys that have a sense of humor but are hard-nosed and stern at the same time.

KW: You are 6-foot-8 right now, so you have a lot of room to build your body. Where would you like your weight be at the time you enter college.

PE: I'm hoping near 300, but it all depends on how my body responds to what I eat and how I train.

KW: When do you plan on making your decision?

PE: I'm not quite sure yet, maybe I'll see what offers come my way and lay them all out and pick the best one; basically just a place where I could play early and get a good education.

KW: I've heard you are a huge Detroit Tigers fan. What do you think of the team so far and do they have enough pieces right now to challenge in the American League?

PE: Well, I like the Tigers right now. There pitching just really needs to step up including (Justin) Verlander and their hitting really needs to come around. I would like to see a lot more out of Johnny Damon, Miguel Cabrera, Austin Jackson and Scott Sizemore because they will be the ones who will lead us to the playoffs, so we'll see.
