Chippewas Insider has learned that safety Denzel Wimberly of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons High School has verbally committed to Central Michigan University.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Wimberly chose the Chippewas over recruiting interest from a number of schools, including Alabama, Mississippi, Nebraska, TCU and Western Kentucky.
Last season, Wimberly tallied 63 tackles, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and six forced fumbles. He becomes the seventh known verbal commitment overall and first from the state of Florida in CMU's 2011 recruiting class.
