Nick Bellore made a game-high 11 tackles in the Chippewas' 33-0 season opening win over Hampton on Thursday.
He led a defensive effort that saw Central Michigan post its first shutout in a season opener since 1979 and limited Hampton to 129 total yards. The game also marked the first time since 1984 that Hampton was held scoreless.
Bellore recorded at least 10 tackles in a game for the 20th time in his career. His career total of 393 stops is the most of any active player in the NCAA Bowl Subdivision.
This marks the second time in his career Bellore has been named MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
CMU is back in action Thursday when it opens MAC play at Temple. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ESPNU will televise the contest.
