BACK-UP QUARTERBACK RACE
It looks like a two-horse race with Munchie Legaux holding a slight edge over Jordan Luallen. In the skelly and team session, Legaux completed three of his seven passes, while Luallen was 2-for-5. However, Butch Jones added Brendon Kay is healthy and is in the race. Kay took two reps in the skelly session, completing both of his passes although one was to the defense.
Injuries have slowed down the cornerback, but he is expected to make contributions to the UC defense.
Maryland transfer Ben Pooler took snaps with the first team defense Monday. Pooler, who graduated from Maryland, should be immediately eligible for his senior season. Pooler played in 12 games, starting five in 2009. He was beset with knee injuries throughout his career, and missed all but one game in 2008 because of a knee injury, and suffered a torn ACL in preseason practice last season.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS • In the skelly and team sessions, Collaros completed 10 of his 16 attempts – including six of seven in team.
• Pat O'Donnell showed a strong leg in his punting sessions.
• I thought freshman Ralph David Abernathy looked good in the skelly and team sessions. He showed quickness off the line and soft hands.
• D.J. Woods, in his two reps of one on ones, blew by both his defenders from long receptions.
