Watkins Likes Hometown School

Watkins says that he talks to the Cincinnati coaching staff every week, but claims that he does not currently have a leader.

It has been less than a month since 2013 running back prospect Keith Watkins received his first scholarship offer from the hometown Cincinnati Bearcats.

With his lone scholarship offer being from a school in close proximity to his house, Watkins has been able to take a couple of trips to the UC campus and has also followed some of the Bearcats' games on television.

"I went to a couple of Cincinnati games this season," Watkins told Bearcat Insider. "I went to the Akron game. It was kind of a blowout, but the environment was nice. I also saw a couple of games on television. I saw when they had a blackout and everybody was wearing black, and that's something that I like about schools, when the atmosphere is like that. It is safe to say that I definitely like UC now."

Watkins is also being recruited by Wisconsin, West Virginia, Northwestern, Indiana, NC State and Duke, although he is still awaiting his second offer.

Cincinnati is currently recruiting Watkins as a running back, but although Bearcat coach Kerry Coombs has told Watkins that he could end up as a defensive back if he were to choose UC.

In the meantime, Watkins has a plan to improve as a player this offseason.

"I'm going to try to get my speed up. Last year, my forty was like a 4.52 laser time. To me, that's pretty slow. My dad ran a 4.4 when he was in high school, so he's telling me to get my speed down. I'm also trying to get my weight to around 190 or 195."

Watkins says that he talks to the Cincinnati coaching staff every week, but claims that he does not currently have a leader. He says that he knows that he has plenty of time to make a decision and he wants to thoroughly evaluate each school before he commits to a program.
