We recently talked with Liston to find out why he chose Cincinnati and what he brings to the football field
How did your senior season go?
"My senior season went well. I finished up with about 101 tackles. I don't know my exact statistics on offense, but I had around 700 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns."
Cincinnati just clinched a share of the Big East Championship. How does it feel to know that you are going to a program that is competing for championships on a yearly basis?
"It feels good. I kind of got a feel to see how coaches handle things today because I was at the game. They don't freak out or anything. They handle things the right way."
How would you describe your style of play to someone who has never seen one of your games?
"My style of play, I would say is I'm an underrated star. I feel like I just play with the mentality that I'm the best on the field. I play with a lot of passion and I love to make highlight hits. I'm a player to watch."
You committed to Cincinnati back in August. How solid is your commitment today?
"It's still pretty solid."
Are you looking at any other schools right now?
"No, not really."
What is your relationship like with the coaching staff at UC?
"It's really good. We talk on the phone and communicate with each other at least three times a week. They love when I come down there and check them out."
Has there been any talk of you playing some offense at Cincinnati?
"Not really. I'm going to bring it up to them though. Their style of offense doesn't really call for a guy like me though. I'm a big guy."
Have you been in contact with any of UC's other commits in the class of 2012?
What are you going to do with your free time from now until you enroll at Cincinnati?
"Study hard, hit the books and make sure my grades are right. I'm going to run track in the spring. From now until spring, I'm going to work out and get physically and mentally prepared for the next level.
Liston has always been known as a strong, physical linebacker who delivers punishing hits, but that description barely scratches the surface of his talent. He moves very well laterally and is athletic enough to play running back in certain college systems. He is already very good in pass coverage, which is not something that you often see out of a high school linebacker. Liston has good instincts and uses his strength to fight off opposing blockers on his way to the football. There isn't a whole lot not to like about his game. Cincinnati could be picking up a huge steal in Liston.
