Last Look Back Defense: Miami (OH) takes a look at UC's defensive performance against Miami (OH).

Defensive Line

Against a prolific passing attack like Miami, the defensive line knew it was going to have its opportunities to rush the passer, and the Bearcats took advantage of those opportunities, finishing with 3 sacks. John Williams, Jordan Stepp, Josh Posley and Roney Lozano combined to make those three sacks, showing the depth that this Cincinnati defensive line has at its disposal. Two of the bigger names, Walter Stewart and Dan Giordano, had quiet games from a statistical standpoint, but they were still able to put solid pressure on Redhawks quarterback Zach Dysert all game long.

Linebackers Nick Temple, Greg Blair and Maalik Bomar all finished in the top three in tackles for the game, showing how consistent this group continues to be. Blair, who has shown a knack for making big plays, was also able to haul in an interception in the third quarter that pretty must sealed the game for Cincinnati. As a whole, the Bearcats defense held Miami to only 59 yards rushing and consistently clogged up any holes the Redhawks running backs had all game long. Another really solid effort from this group.

After facing one of the most talented quarterbacks in the country in Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas, the Cincinnati secondary was given no time to rest as they faced yet ANOTHER signal caller with NFL potential in Miami's Zac Dysert. Once again, this unit showed they are afraid of no one, holding the Redhawk's quarterback to a little over 50% completion percentage and intercepting three passes, two of which came from cornerbacks Deven Drane and Camerron Cheatham. Cheatham was able to return his for a touchdown, evening the game back up at 7-7 and forcing the Miami passing attack to think twice before throwing his direction. This group has shown that no test it too big and continues to improve on a week to week basis. Great job boys.
