DeBerry Talks Commitment To Cincinnati

Bearcat Insider caught up with 2014 commit Coreontae DeBerry as he turned his verbal commitment into a signed letter of intent in November. DeBerry looks to fill the spots down low as they will become vacant after the season.

Coreontae DeBerry is a 6-foot-9 forward currently playing at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas. In 13 games this season he's averaging 10.8 points, 5.8 (76) rebounds per game, shooting 59-percent (52-87) from the field and 81-percent (36-44) from the charity stripe with 20 blocks.

"Coach Mick Cronin and Coach Larry Davis have told me they want me to come in ready to play, be an outstanding rebounder and play hard," DeBerry said.

We talked about how this commit has made life easier, "Gets a very big weight off my shoulders, cause I don't have to worry about where I'm gonna play after I'm done with JUCO," explained DeBerry. "I have great people at Cincinnati behind my back while I'm way out here in Kansas. All I need to do is come take care of business and I'll be on my way," DeBerry added. "I feel pretty good about the commitment I made."

DeBerry spoke more about his relationship with Coach Davis also, "When I first transferred from Mott CC, Cincinnati was the first one to call me to find out where I was gonna play," said DeBerry. "I had no idea they we're recruiting me that heavy, but coach Larry Davis has been on the phone with me everyday since I decided to transfer from Mott CC."

"I came to UC in the summer and I loved it, I didn't really want to go anywhere else," DeBerry added. He also let us in on a little secret, "I always wanted to go to UC when I was little but I have never told them that."

The future Bearcat big man looks to fill the shoes of seniors Justin Jackson and Titus Rubles as they depart. He believes he'll be a force in the paint with his size and winning attitude. "I can help down low, my size and I just want to win to be honest," DeBerry stated.
