Bearcats Pull in Top Athlete

Cincinnati pulles in another top athlete for the 2014 recruiting class in Jernard Pinckney. Bearcat Insider caught up with Pinckney about his decision.

The offer list was impressive for Sylvania (Ohio) Southview standout Jernard Pinckney as he held offers from the Big Ten, SEC and many more. However, when it was all said and done, Cincinnati stood out as Pinckney gave his pledges to the Bearcats.

"Last night I was talking with coach (Steve) Clinkscale about some recruiting things and I basically committed last night," explained Pinckney. "Earlier today, I got on the phone with him again and spoke with him about the team and where I would be playing. I also spoke with head coach Tommy Tuberville and they both talked about how excited they are about me coming there and planning my official visit."

Rated as a three-star wide receiver by, Pinckney will enter UC open as to where he'll play on the field.

"I'm going to Cincinnati as an athlete," he said. "I will play corner, safety or wide receiver. Whatever they see fit that will best help the team I'm all for. I'm a guy who wants to get on the field and help the team win and get everyone better. So anywhere on the field is fine with me."

When it came crunch time Pinckney narrowed it down to two programs.

"It was between Michigan State and Cincinnati." said Pinckney. "Some of the deciding factors is my family lives in Ohio and they can come see me play my home games. I also have a lot of friends in Cincinnati and Columbus.

"So I thought it would be the most convenient thing for them to come and support me. Also, one of my good friends that I have known since fourth grade is Ryan Stout who is also a commit. He's been dropping hints about me also being a Bearcat and today when I told him about it, he was all psyched as we were hugging each other in the hallway. It's kind of a dream come true for two guys like us being able to go to school together since fourth grade and to continue that in college."
