UC AD Whit Babcock Departures; Interim Named

Announced earlier today, Babcock departures UC and takes the Virginia Tech job. UC quickly names an interim AD and will hold a press conference tomorrow at 1pm.

University of Cincinnati announced today athletics director Whit Babcock has accepted the position of AD at Virginia Tech. Babcock took over as AD at UC in October 2011. UC President Santa Ono named Desiree Reed-Francois as Interim Athletics Director.

Under Babcock leadership, UC moved forward with plans for an $86 million renovation to Nippert Stadium. He recruited Tommy Tuberville as head football coach, one of the nation's top coaches and recruiters. They opened Sheakley Athletics Center as a football practice facility and lacrosse field. Also launched a scholarship enhancement plan for Olympic sports and created a three-year strategic plan (ONE TEAM) for all facets of UC's athletics program.

Desiree joined UC in March 2013 as Senior Associate Director of Athletics and the Senior Woman Administrator. She has almost 20 years of experience at the collegiate and professional levels. Prior to UC, she served in progressive leadership positions at Cal, the Oakland Raiders, the NFL and Tennessee. Today she became the first Hispanic female director of athletics in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision.
