2014 List of Defensive Signees

This list includes the rest of the defensive pack for your 2014 class.

Linden Stephens, 6-foot-2, 185-pound CB from Fork Union Military Academy (Euclid, OH). Stephens finished the year with 43 tackles, five for loss, four interceptions and two sacks.

Coach Steven Clinkscale on Stephens: "After spending a year in prep school, Linden's arrival to our defensive backfield will help in providing youth and talent. His phenomenal ball skills and top notch lateral quickness will result in him making a push to play early. He will also help in further pushing the UC brand to all parts of Ohio as he hails from Euclid."

Marcus Tappen, 6-foot-2, 235-pound LB out of Glendale College (Downey, CA) is a JUCO guy. He finished up with 56 tackles, 8.5 for loss and three sacks.

Coach Hank Hughes on Tappen: "Despite not being heavily recruited out of high school, Marcus proved in one year at Junior College level that many people misjudged his ability. He is already making great impression in our weight room as a January enrollee and will have every chance to entrench himself as a starter come Spring Ball."

Hakeem Allonce, 6-foot-5, 290-pound DT, Los Angeles Pierce College (Greenbelt, MD). In nine games, he had 20 tackles, six for loss, and four sacks.

Coach Robert Prunty on Allonce: "Hakeem is a massive man who will be ready to step in and replace some of the seniors that we lost in the last class. He has only played football for a few years but already has proven that he is a star in the making."

Ja'Merez Bowen, 6-foot-4, 270-pound DT, Shaker Heights HS (Cleveland, OH). He had 24 tackles & 2.5 sacks.Cleveland.com 1st Team All-Star.

Coach Tommy Tuberville on Bowen: "Tank is one of the top players in Ohio and truly lives up to his nickname when battling in the trenches. He rarely leaves a game as he plays both sides of the ball. He is a man amongst boys at the high school level."

Kimoni Fitz, 6-foot-4, 230-pound DE, Dan River HS (Chatham, VA). Finished with 116 tackles, 29 for loss, 15 sacks and two defensive TD's.

Coach Prunty on Fitz: "Kimoni made his presence known in the backfield all season while tallying 15 sacks. He will be a big-time edge presence for years to come at UC."

Carter Jacobs, 6-foot-1, 193-pounds, S, American Heritage HS (Coral Sorings, FL). He had 107 tackles and three sacks in his senior season. Florida 5AM 1st Team All-State, 1st Team All-Broward County and Florida 5A 2nd Team All-State Elite.

Coach Jeff Koonz on Jacobs: "Carter is coached by 2 men that had great NFL careers (Mike Rumph and Patrick Surtain), both describe him as the most talented Safety they have seen coming out of high school. He is widely considered a "Coach on the Field" by all who have come in contact with him. He will be a stalwart for future championships at UC."

Keith Minor, 6-foot-5, 250-pound, DT, Chapel Hill HS (Chapel Hill, TX). He had 123 tackles, 12 TFL, four sacks, two force fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Coach Prunty on Minor: "Keith is one of the most underrated players in the state of Texas. His status as a recruit really accelerated after growing into his body during his Junior and Senior seasons. His size and explosiveness will make him a prime-time performer."

JJ Pinckney, 6-foot-3, 185-pound, CB, Sylvania Southview HS (Toledo, OH). He played both sides of the ball, 48 catches, 520 total yards, 23 tackles, one INT and 10 total TD's.

Coach Clinkscale on Pinckney: "His size and speed combination make him incomparable when considering prospects across the nation. His transition from full-time Wide Receiver to a guy that plays both ways has resulted in one of the best prospects in Ohio. His continued development as a Cornerback could eventually land him at the next level."

Odell Spencer, 6-foot, 170-pound, CB, Shaker Heights HS (Cleveland, OH). On defense he had 35 tackles, five INT, 1 TD and on offense 747 all-purpose yards with 8 TD's.

Director of Recruiting Mike Waugh on Spencer: "Odell is by far the most underrated prospect in the entire state of Ohio. The Cleveland native will improve the UC brand in northern Ohio and will open eyes with his ability to make big plays on either side of the ball. The sky is the limit for this up young man."

Alex Thomas, 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, CB, Chaminade Madonna HS (Lauderdale Lakes, FL). He had 30 tackles, six interceptions, two TD's.

Coach Clinkscale on Thomas: "Alex provides length at the Cornerback position and is a smooth athlete on either side of the ball. He sticks out when accelerating to the ball and making a physical play on his man. He is a huge addition to a defense that will continue to rank at the top of the nation."
