Dean Finds A Home In Cincinnati

It didn't take long for Homestead (Fla.) South Dade defensive back Jhavonte Dean to find a comfort level in Cincinnati. Dean gave the Bearcats his commitment on Tuesday and talked with Bearcat Insider about his camp visit and commitment.

Tuesday was a big day for Jhavonte Dean as he got the grand tour of the Cincinnati campus and took part in one of the Bearcats summer football camps.

Who is Dean?

"I'm from Miami, Florida, and I play defensive back," he said. "I committed to Cincinnati yesterday and it's a big weight off my shoulders.

While Dean may have been under the radar to many in the recruiting world, Bearcats defensive backs coach Steven Clinkscale was a key reason for the Florida native to pledge to UC.

"I had offers from FIU, Cincinnati, Kentucky and Tennessee," he said. "Coach Clinkscale was my main recruiter and to me, I felt that was a big help as I felt with him going to be the man that was going to coach me was really good."

"Before the camp yesterday I got a tour of campus with Coach Clinkscale. There were a lot of things that caught my eye and as soon as you walk in it looks nice as they have those great big stairs to campus. I then walked out on the field and it just felt good.

Once we got in camp it was the way he was coaching me and pushing me to the front of the line. He never gave up on me and I feel that is the way a coach should be towards me."

While Dean will continue to have those coming after him, he stresses he's done with summer camps and is looking forward to getting to Cincinnati in the future.
