Bearcat Insider Game Balls Defense Toledo

Cincinnati’s defense wasn’t always pretty Friday night as the Bearcats defeated Toledo 58-34; however, there were a few performances of note and Bearcat Insider hands out a few game balls on defense.

After a first quarter that saw the Cincinnati defense give up 96 total yards (mostly on the ground) and zero points the second quarter saw Toledo post 14 points and an additional 209 yards of offense.

While most Bearcat fans were not worried about the sudden change with a 27 point lead, the Rockets proved worthy of taking advantage of a few Bearcat mistakes adding another 20 points and 258 yards of offense .

Despite the ups and downs of the night Bearcat Insider has a few game balls to hand out to a few members of the defense.

DE: Terrell Hartsfield – The defensive end posted 1.5 sacks along with a quarterback hurry and six total tackles on the night. He also gave the Bearcats pressure off the edge and did a good job of containment outside of the box.

LB: Jeff Luc – We expected Luc to be more productive at middle linebacker and the first game proved that with Luc posting 12 tackles (5 solo) on the night and one pass breakup. However, ten of the tackles came before halftime.

S: Zach Edwards – You know your team is having some issues if one of your top tacklers is out of the secondary. Edwards posted 11 total tackles on the night to go with a pass breakup.

LB: Nick Temple – The senior linebacker was third on the night with nine total tackles and to go with a quarterback hurry. During one part of the game, Temple was key in keeping Toledo from getting things really going.

DT: Brandon Mitchell – Make no mistake, there are some issues in the middle of the Bearcats front four. However, Mitchell did post five tackles on the night and without him things could have been worse.
