Boone Continues To Step Forward

A banner day by the Cincinnati offense was spearheaded by running back Michael Boone. The Florida native continues to show why Tommy Tuberville and his staff recruited him hard out of Baker County High.

If you wore a red jersey Saturday during Cincinnati’s annual spring game there was a good chance you enjoyed success. For sophomore running back Michael Boone a 152 yard, two score day was icing on the cake of what has been a great start to his Bearcat career.

“It was pretty good today and this spring,” said Boone. “My main focus this spring was on pass protection and learning from the older guys. But I’m more comfortable now and Coach (Eddie) Gran is a great coach who has coached me well.

While giving high praise to his position coach Boone also knows he’s learned a lot from those ahead of him.

“The older guys have given me tips as they’ve been playing longer,” he said. I’ve just looked to expand on that and compete.”

With Tion Green and Hosey Williams also having solid days, Boone knows having players on his heels is good for the team.

“All this makes us all work harder and makes the team better,” he continued. “The final decision on who will play is in the hands of the coaches. We just try and do what we’re capable of doing.”

How important did Boone find this past offseason in the Bearcats weight room?

“This offseason I’ve worked hard to put on a couple of pounds,” he stressed. “No I can run through the linebackers and defensive backs.”

As for his final spring performance, Boone kept things in check.

“I think I did ok today,” he said. “There is always room for improvement and the offensive line and receivers were amazing today.”
