Cincinnati Moves Forward On Fifth-Third Arena

Everything looks to be coming together for the University of Cincinnati as the final touches on Nippert Stadium are taking place and the UC Board of Trustees have approved the next step needed to give Fifth-Third Arena a much needed face lift.

With $15 million already raised, University of Cincinnati athletic director Mike Bohn received the go-ahead from the board of trustees to move forward with plans of giving Mick Cronin another tool in helping continue build the Bearcats basketball program into a top program.

Tuesday found approval of $2.2 million towards design funding towards the project but with a catch. Bohn must continue raising money with the trustees wanting another $25 million raised for the project by the end of the year.

Once given final approval the project would begin following the upcoming basketball season with a finish date prior to the start of the Bearcats 2017-18 season.

While administrators within the Bearcats athletic program will not comment on the programs need to make a move to a Power Five Conference, this project is another step in showing Cincinnati athletics have the resources to keep growing and prosper in a bigger conference setting.
