The Cincinnati Bearcats will be welcoming in the Connecticut Huskies on Saturday October 24th at 4:30 at Nippert Stadium and we at BCI will give a quick preview of their offense and defense.

The Huskies offense is led by offensive coordinator Frank Verducci and under his play calling they are averaging 19.9 per game during seven games.

The point man for them is quarterback Bryant Shirreffs. He is a dual threat that has put up decent stats in his first seven games. Shirreffs has thrown for 1,636 yards, 7 touchdown and 4 interceptions on 64.4% completions. He also has run for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The head running back is Arkeel Newsome who has 363 yards and 3 touchdowns so far this season. His longest run has been 34 yards. He also has great hands out of the backfield as he’s the second leading receiver on the team with 25 receptions. Newsome has 308 yards and a touchdown on those 25 receptions.

The number one target for Shirreffs is wide receiver Noel Thomas who has 33 receptions for 455 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Huskies are led on defense by defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter who has them allowing 20 points per game.

The have been known for having a solid defense during the past few years and this year they are led by safety Andrew Adams and linebacker Junior Joseph. Adams has 52 tackles (2 tackles for loss), 2 interceptions and 2 passes defensed. Joseph has 47 tackles (1.5 tackles for loss) and 1 interception.

The Huskies leading sack artist is defensive end Folorunso Fatukasi with 3.5.

Cornerbacks Jamar Summers and Jhavon Williams are tied for the team lead in interceptions with 3 apiece.

This is an active bunch that already has 14 takeaways for the season so it will be important like any other game for the Bearcats to protect the ball against its homecoming opponent.
