The black team started out fast as they took a 28-19 lead into halftime. During the first half the black team was lead by Shaq Thomas who had 11 points on 5 of 9 shooting. Thomas looked very aggressive and attacked. For the red team freshman point guard Justin Jenifer did a great job pushing the ball and has great vision. I personally was impressed the most by the way he passes and his pace. The flexibility that he will provide in the backcourt will be great for the Bearcats. Also big man Octavius Ellis held it down for the red team with 8 points on 2 of 4 from the field and a block.
The second half started more of the same as the black team had a nice lead, but the red team clawed back (no pun intended) and made it a game. Ellis scored 18 of his game high 26 points in the second half and led the red team to a tie at the end of regulation. Freshman Jacob Evans also impressed as he scored all of his 10 points in the half on 4 of 11 shooting (adding a score from behind the arc) and 5 rebounds. Freshman Tre Scott for the black team added 7 points all in the second half also as the leading point getter in the second half for the black team was Farad Cobb with 8 of his 13 coming in the half. Cobb did have a big miss that could’ve put the black team up 4 points and in turn Jenifer made a big pull up jumper to tie the game at 51 and that is where the game ended.
So with no overtime for a scrimmage they had a free throw shootout and the first to miss was the loser. Ellis, Clark, Johnson and Evans all made free throws for the red team and Thomas, Caupain and Cobb make free throws for the black team. Coreontae DeBerry missed the free throw that lead to the red team victory 55-54.
Bearcats fans no need to panic this team showed why everybody in Clifton is excited for the upcoming basketball season.
