We took a drive into the Knights offense and defense earlier in the week now we will get into their head coach situation and special teams.
Well at the beginning of the week I thought I was going to be giving you facts on George O’Leary, but now that he’s retired as of earlier this week the head man in charge is interim head coach is Danny Barrett. Barrett was on the staff as the quarterbacks coach and now is thrusted into the role as head coach for the final few games. If the Cincinnati grad and former football letterman can impress maybe he will get a shot at being the main guy without the interim title in front.
He has experience in college and the CFL, so maybe the unknown will be known before we know it.
The Knights special teams are led by former graduate assistant now special teams coach Mike Buscemi.
Kicker Matthew Wright is 9/11 in the field goal department with a long of 48 yards. He has missed two field goals, but one because it was blocked. With Wright the Knights have a solid kicking game.
Punter Mac Loudermilk filled in last week for Caleb Houston and with 7 punts he averaged 50 yards a kick, 2 of those kicks landed inside the 20 yard line. It seems the redshirt freshman will be the main punter from here on out.
The Knights leading kick returner is Tristan Payton he averages 24.4 yards per return and have a season long of 33 yards.
The punt return duties are handled by Chris Johnson, nope not the Chris Johnson that plays for the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL (ok that’s my joke for today), but he averages 6.8 yards per return and has a season long of 24 yards.
Overall they don’t have a very explosive special teams, but they also haven’t had many chances to show their abilities also. With that being said I think the Bearcats will be able to control this unit.
