The Cougars are led by head coach Tom Herman. Herman is in his first year with the program and currently has them 8-0. They are currently ranked 18th in the nation and tied for first in the American Athletic Conference West with Memphis and Navy.
Herman has turned them into Ohio State south because of course he was the offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes during the last few season and mainly was the main behind the offense during their championship run last season.
With how great Houston has been playing the question will be how long will he being Texas.
The Cougars special teams unit is led by special teams coach Jason Washington. Washington’s unit is very strong in the return game and average in the kicking game.
The place kicking duties have now been taken over by Ty Cummings who is 3 of 3 during the two games he’s played. The previous kicker Kyle Bullard was 5 of 9 during his time. Cummings has made the most of his opportunities and has a season long of 37 yards.
Punter has been more stable throughout the season, compared to the place kickers. Punter Logan Piper is averaging 40.7 per punt and has had 12 land inside the 20 yard line.
Now this team might have the best return the game Bearcats have faced all year both kick and punt returners are dangerous. Brandon Wilson is the kick returner and he averages 26.7 yards per return. He has taken one back to the house this season and it was of the 100 yard variety. The punt returner is the dangerous Demarcus Ayers who also has 1 touchdown and averages 14.4 yards per return. Ayers long is 73 yards. These boys are a threat when they get their hands on the ball UC must be smart when covering these guys or they could give up some easy points.
