BCI takes a look at the Bearcats next opponent the Tulsa Golden Hurricane

The Bearcats will be playing their last home game of the season and they will be taking on American Athletic Conference opponent Tulsa Golden Hurricane. With a win on Saturday they can become bowl eligible which is the main concern this part of the season.

The Bearcats will be at home on Saturday evening taking on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Coming off a heartbreaking loss at Houston hopefully Nippert Stadium will be the remedy for UC.

The Golden Hurricanes are led by co-offensive coordinators Matt Mattox and Sterlin Gilbert. The combo of Mattox and Gilbert has the Golden Hurricane averaging 36.3 points per game this season. Mattox also serves at the offensive line coach. Gilbert also serves as the wide receivers and quarterbacks coach.

The quarterback is Dane Evans. Evans has 2938 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions on 61%. He runs a little also, but isn’t a real threat in that area (181 yards and 1 touchdown). Evans number one receiver is Keyarris Garrett. Garrett has 65 catches for 996 yards and 5 touchdowns. Barring injury he should top the 1,000 yard mark on Saturday.

Josh Atkinson is also a threat for the Golden Hurricane. He has 44 catches for 706 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The main running back is D’Angelo Brewer. He has 563 yards on 5.4 yards per carry and 2 touchdowns. Zack Langer has also seen significant playing time this season as he has ran for 631 yards (leading rusher) and 14 touchdowns. Both have missed some time this season, but Brewer is the more explosive back per yards per carry.

The Golden Hurricanes are led by defensive coordinator Bill Young. Brian Norwood is also the co-defensive coordinator. The combination of Young and Norwood has the defense giving up 37.3 points per game. Young also serves at the defensive line coach. Norwood is also the associate head coach and safeties coach.

The defense is led by safety Michael Mudoh who has 100 tackles (3.5 tackles for loss) and, 1 interception and 5 pass breakups.

The second leading tackler is also number one in sacks and that is linebacker Matt Linscott. Linscott has 75 tackles (14.5 tackles for loss), 5 sacks and 1 interception.

This team only has six takeaways all season which should bode well for the Bearcats who like to throw it all over the yard. This team gives up an average of 519.1 yards per game.

Note: Tulsa doesn't use a fullback so we placed receivers in the fullback position. They start with three receivers.
