The Bearcats will be at home on Saturday evening taking on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. We took a look at offense and defense earlier now are diving into their head coach and special teams situations.
The Golden Hurricane are led by first year head coach Philip Montgomery. Montgomery has a current record of 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference. He is known for being the offensive coordinator of the high powered Baylor Bears offense for seven seasons. All of those seasons weren’t as offensive coordinator, but he was on the offensive side of the ball his whole tenure.
The Golden Hurricane special teams are led by special teams coordinator Calvin Lowry. Lowry also serves as the wide receivers coach. Currently the unit isn’t lighting the world on fire.
Kicker Redford Jones is 14 of 21 in field goal attempts while he has had 2 blocked he has missed 5 out right and doesn’t seem to be automatic from anywhere on the field.
Punter Dalton Parks has been solid all season as he averages 41.2 yards per punt, had 25 fair caught and 15 inside the 20 yard line.
Kick returner Ramadi Warren is the more explosive out of the two that contribute on a consistent basis. Bishop Louie also returns kicks. Warren averages 22.9 yards per return and has a long of 45 yards. Louie averages 17.8 yards per return and has a long of 26 yards.
The punt returning duties are handled by Conner Floyd who averages 13.8 yards a return and has a long of 27 yards.
All in all the Golden Hurricane special teams don’t do anything that I think would put fear into the Bearcats unit, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be discipline.
