#24 Cincinnati beats George Washington 61-56 in Barclays Center Classic Finals

#24 Cincinnati Bearcats move to 7-0 as they won the Barclays Center Classic on Saturday afternoon after beating a game George Washington Colonials team 61-56. The Bearcats were tested at the Barclays Center Classic which will bode well moving forward.

The Bearcats were able to successfully win the Barclays Center Classic after playing back to back days knocking off Nebraska on Friday and George Washington on Saturday.

George Washington was a game team as they loss 61-56 on Saturday, but put this team in your mental rolodex because they aren’t a slouch.

The Bearcats had a team effort, but Kevin Johnson came up huge in the second half to keep the team afloat when it looked like the Colonials wanted to take command of the game. Johnson scored 9 of his 11 points in the second half which was huge as he has been off as of late. Octavius Ellis and Troy Caupain made clutch free throws to ice the victory for the Bearcats. Caupain had a huge and 1 play that was able to put UC up 55-54 and with 1:38 left in the game. After that play the boys from Clifton didn’t relinquish the lead.

Troy followed a 17 point effort with another team leading effort of 16 points. He also added 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Farad Cobb added 11 points. Gary Clark added 6 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists and 1 block.

UC shot 41.5% from the field, 31.8% from 3-point line, and 83.3% from the foul line while holding GW to 37.5% from the field. The Bearcats have shown the ability to win ugly and win pretty.

The leading scorer for the Colonials Patricio Garino with 15 points on 6 of 12 from the field.

This win pushed the #24 ranked team in the country to 7-0 and they may move up in the rankings on Monday.

The last two games have been a grind for them, but it has tested them and showed them all games won’t be 50 point blowouts which will suit them well in December.
