Crosstown Shootout returns to Xavier's campus on Saturday

Saturday December 12th the Crosstown Shootout will return Xavier's Cintas Center for the first time in four years. Can the Bearcats break its two game losing streak in the rivalry?

After a four year hiatus the Crosstown Shootout will be played against in the Cintas Center. The last time this great rivalry was played on Xavier’s home court mayhem broke out during Xavier’s 76-53 victory for the Bearcat fans out there at least we won the war right? This ugly incident put this great series in jeopardy as these rivals whose campuses are only 5 miles apart might’ve only crossed each other at parties.

Last year the game moved back to campus as the Bearcats were the first to host the game since the 2011-12 season. After the incident both schools came to a compromise that they would play two years at US Bank Arena downtown. The teams split the two games down on the banks, but if you watched the energy wasn’t as electric as when you saw the games played on campus so it was a breath of fresh air to this series get moved to where it rightfully belongs.

The Bearcats loss in a thriller last season 59-57 and have loss the last two games in the series. The Musketeers are ranked 12th in the nation currently so if the Bearcats can pull off this road win it will be a nice notch under their NCAA tournament resume belt.

The Bearcats and Musketeers are both ranked in the top 25 and this is the first time since 1994 they will play as mutual ranked opponents. If Xavier can defend home court they can knock their rivals out of the top 25 which would be something else X fans would be able to brag about.

After a four year absence the game is finally back at Xavier, can Cincinnati spoil their rivals home coming? We will see on Saturday at 5:30 pm. For those that won’t be attending live it will be shown on Fox. Don’t miss out this game is going to be electric.
