Shaq Thomas and Troy Caupain talk after Crosstown Shootout loss

Senior Shaq Thomas and junior Troy Caupain talked briefly after 65-55 Crosstown Shootout loss to Xavier at the Cintas Center.

Junior point guard Troy Caupain and senior small forward Shaquille Thomas talked to the media briefly after 65-55 defeat in Crosstown Shootout. Both players had double digits scoring, but defensively lapses and turnovers doomed the Bearcats in the Cintas Center on Saturday evening.

Caupain on second half adjustments:

“We had fewer turnovers and we rebounded the basketball much better on the defensive end. We had more aggression on offense trying to grab offensive rebounds as well so just overall we played better basketball in the second half than the first.”

Caupain on shooting a lot of 3s in first half:

“In the first half I felt like we shot some quality shots on the inside, but on the defensive end we struggled getting back they had a lot of transition points and they had 8 offensive rebounds in the first half which really killed us. They scored 42 points in total, but in the second half only 23 points so we played better defensively in the second half obviously.”

Thomas on Xavier coming out strong in first half:

“I think we came out kind of lackadaisical and didn’t play smart basketball, but I think if you put two halves(like the second half) like that together I think the outcome could have been different, but we turned the ball over too much including myself I had too many turnovers tonight.”

Caupain on 1-3-1 zone by Xavier:

“I don’t think the zone affected us too much I just think we were rushing we weren’t playing relaxed we were moving too fast. I think we kind of let the crowd get to us in the game. We had a wonderful week of practice preparing for the 1-3-1. We just have to get the job done from the opening tip and we didn’t do that tonight.”

Players were pulled by coach Mick Cronin so they didn't get to answer any more questions.
