This week was a great week to be a tight end and especially a former UC tight end. As Travis Kelce a member of the Kansas City Chiefs and Brent Celek a member of the Philadelphia Eagles both got new deals. Kelce got his deal on Friday and Celek received his on Tuesday.
Kelce just made the Pro Bowl after coming off of a monster season. He had 72 catches for 875 yards and 5 touchdowns. He signed a five year deal worth $46 million with $20.5 million guaranteed. This is his third season, but only his second season playing because he was injured his rookie season. Kelce is currently one of the best tight ends in the NFL and with the new deal done he is going to get paid like it.
Celek signed a three year deal worth $13 million with $6 million guaranteed. He is coming off a season where he had 27 catches 398 yards and 3 touchdowns. For his career he has 371 catches, 4.713 yards and 30 touchdowns. Celek has carved out a nice career since entering the NFL in 2007. The Cincinnati native’s best season was in 2009 where he had 76 catches, 971 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Kelce last season with the Bearcats was 2012 and Celek last season with the Bearcats was 2006.
Besides being Bearcat Alums they both are from the state of Ohio, Kelce from Cleveland and Celek from Cincinnati. I think that is cool to see two Ohio bred product reach the level of success they have so far in their careers.
Congrats to both of these former UC players I bet Coach Tommy Tuberville will add this to his recruiting pitches before Wednesday. #BearcatNation don’t slander me I know neither player played under Tuberville, but it is a good asset to use given their success at the next level all programs uses former players to help shine light on the current program.
