Colerain (Ohio) 2017 OL/DL Howard Watkins was offered by the Bearcats Saturday before the Spring Game

OL/DL Howard Watkins is heading into his senior season and has taken a few trips to Cincinnati’s campus, but on Saturday he was super excited as UC was the seventh team to offer him a scholarship. Bearcat Insider spoke with Watkins about his visit.

Howard Watkins speaks on all the teams that have offered him so far.

“Miami (OH), Indiana, Ball State, Columbia, Harvard and Cincinnati have offered me already,” he said.

Watkins also talked about his most recent Cincinnati visit and watching the Spring Game.

“I liked how the guys were out there competing, it felt like a real game. I  liked the atmosphere, those guys came to play and I really liked that,” he said.

“I got offered by offensive line coach Grimes, but currently they have me a swinger so I spoke to coach Ingram also,” he said.

Watkins speaks on what will determine whether he is plays on the offensive or the defensive line.

“A lot of colleges are saying I’m not done growing so I could possibility end up at 6’5” or 6’6” and play offensive tackle. I’m currently 6’4”. If I don’t grow I’ll probably be playing on the defensive line when I go to school,” he said.

He also spoke on players on both sides of the ball that he looks to try to model his game after.

“Former Bearcats Trent Cole, Connor Barwin and recently retired Jared Allen on the defensive side of the ball are who I like to watch and take stuff from their game. On the offensive side of the ball I like to watch Michael Oher (I love his story and where he came from) and Bengals Andrew Whitworth, I met with Whitworth one time and he was super cool,” he said.

Watkins will be attending the UC camp in the summer so that will be another chance for the Bearcats staff to see him in person.

Bearcat Insider will be following Watkins process throughout the year so make sure you are checking the site out as we will have the latest on his process.
