Sciotoville (Ohio) Portsmouth East 2018 LB Ethan Gifford is on the Bearcats radar

Linebacker Ethan Gifford comes from a football pedigree passed down from his father and grandfather. Gifford played Quarterback as a freshman, but the move to linebacker has garnered him more interest from Division I schools as he was on campus for the Bearcats Spring Game Saturday. Bearcat Insider was able to catch up with Gifford to talk about his visit.

Ethan Gifford talks about his experience at the Cincinnati Bearcats Spring Game.

“It was a great experience, I’ve been there one time with Tyler (who is an early enrollee at Ohio State right). I like the place a lot, I’ve been there for a few games, and I like the facilities a lot. I love the linebacker coach (Coach Koonz) he’s awesome. The staff as a whole just seems so excited for the football season I like that a lot,” he said.

Gifford talks about the schools that he has visited.

“I’ve been to Ohio, Toledo and James Madison,” he said.

Gifford talks about which camps he hopes to hit this summer.

“I’m going to Ohio, Mount Union, Iowa State and I’m going to try for Cincinnati’s camp also.”

Gifford talks about past experience and switching positions his sophomore year.

“In the eighth grade I came with Tyler, I weighed around 165 lbs and nobody really was paying attention to me and to be at the position I’m at now where I’m starting to get looks is awesome,” he said.

“As a freshman I played quarterback, but during the summer I asked my dad what would be my best opportunity to play college ball and said unless he grew a lot it would be best to switch positions which led to my move to linebacker.”

Bearcat Insider will have more news on Ethan as he progresses up the high school ranks.
