BCI is taking a peek at the running back position for the Bearcats

Bearcat Insider is going to preview all of the positions so #BearcatNation can know what to expect when the 2016 season starts. Today we tackle running backs (see what I did there).

Last season the Bearcats featured a three headed monster out of the backfield. Michael BooneTion Green and Hosey Williams, Williams has since graduated, but that still leaves Boone and Green. Honestly if you watch the Bearcats any you know this unit is a position of strength.

Boone has been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List which is a list around the best all-around players in the collegiate ranks. He is going into his junior season and is a person who is a big time playmaker. With more reps number 5 will become a household name for those that are currently sleep on the Lil’ Wayne look alike. In 11 games played he ran for 749 yards on 104 carries for a 7.2 average and 9 touchdowns. He was first in yards per carry, last in carries and second in yards for the Bearcats. Three words "Increase his touches".

Green is coming into his senior campaign and based off of his 2015 season will have a change to make a major impact again. He is more of the physical back because of his stature and he is used more between the tackles. Last year he was seen doing running back option passes and even in the wildcat. Green played all 13 games ran for 729 yards on 151 carries and ran for 8 touchdowns. He also threw for one touchdown.

After the two lead dogs question marks appear in this unit because of the last of experience and playing time for the reserves. Deionte Buckley (Indiana State) will get a chance to get reps with a strong game. Junior Chad Banschbach saw time last year so he will certainly be in the mix. The two players who caught my eye during the spring were redshirt freshman Taylor Boose and Joshuwa Holloman. Boose is a big back at 6 foot 200 lbs, soon as he gets on the field you notice. Holloman seems to have some of the Mike Boone juice as every time he touches the ball he seems to have a shot to go the house. Freshman Gerrid Doaks will be on campus, but like Boose and Holloman the year before it will probably be wise to redshirt him.

Overall with Boone and Green leading the charge barring any significant injury this unit will be making plays all season. If a couple of the youngsters can make plays in spot duty that will be a plus for the depth of this unit.
