Bearcat Insider was able to catch up with junior cornerback Linden Stephens following their practice at Higher Ground. Stephens is looking forward to being a leader on the defense and helping out the younger guys on the team. Last season Stephens played in all 12 games, he ended the season with 33 tackles and 2 interceptions

Bearcat Insider: What kind of goals do you have set for yourself going into this season?

Stephens: “Really just to be a leader on the defense and to lead by example. We have a lot of young guys out here, so basically just helping them and showing them the way. I know how hard it was for me when I was a freshman and even going into my sophomore year. So basically just helping the young guys out because we are going to need them.”

Bearcat Insider: When it comes to camp Higher Ground what do you like about it and what do you dislike about it?

Stephens: “What I like about it is that you can stay focused, it’s not a lot of distractions. You’re really able to just focus on the team, get closer with all your teammates, and you’re able to understand your assignments more. When you’re on campus there’s a lot of distractions, a lot of other things that can take away from the common goal that we are focusing on. Here we are all creating a bond with the offense and defense, we’re competing every day. It can be overwhelming at times. It’s hot out here, its meetings, football, and practice every day, but you have to embrace it. We’re trying to win games this year so we love it.”

Bearcat Insider: What’s your favorite thing about The University of Cincinnati?

Stephens: “I love that they treat you no different than anyone else. They treat the freshman the same, everyone’s together. Like Coach P (Robert Prunty) says, we’re a family here, so everyone is treated the same.”

Bearcat Insider: “In a few words, describe the wide receivers on this team.”

Stephens: “We compete every day. I go up against Devin Gray every day and he’s definitely getting me better; he’s quick/fast. Guys like Avery Johnson, Khalil Lewis, they get us better each day. We’re competing and they definitely have helped us a lot.”
