Bearcats sophomore cornerback Alex Thomas was very active in the defensive backfield on Saturday

Bearcat Insider was able to catch up with sophomore cornerback Alex Thomas after the Bearcats scrimmaged at Nippert Stadium on Saturday. Thomas had a very good game making various plays in the passing game. Check out what Thomas had to say afterwards.

Bearcat Insider was able to catch up with sophomore cornerback Alex Thomas following preseason scrimmage #1. Thomas played in nine games last season, making 23 tackles. He had to step up and play last season due to many team injuries and he feels that he’s learned a lot in between the time. Thomas is looking forward to making a big impact defensively, check out what he had to say:

Bearcat Insider: How does it feel to be playing back at Nippert Stadium?

Thomas: “It feels real good. It’s the best experience, seeing how the fans were last year compared to how they were at Paul Brown stadium, shows you how much the fans care about The University of Cincinnati and the football team.”

Bearcat Insider: What kind of goals do you have set for yourself this season?

Thomas: “ The goals I have set for myself is for my defense and I to be the best defense in the American Athletic Conference, for all our defensive backs to get at least three picks, and hopefully get a chance to be an All-American.

Bearcat Insider: Having played a lot last year due to many injuries, how do you feel you’ve better yourself from last year to now?

Thomas: “Last year I felt like I was going off talent more than I was going off knowing the game. This year I actually took more of an approach to learn the game so I am able to know the plays.”

Bearcat Insider: You’re a lot deeper at cornerback this year, do you feel that will help the team play better?

Thomas: “Definitely, because later on in the season people will start to get banged up and we are going to need fresh legs always. At defensive back you always need to be able to rotate.”
