Coach Tuberville names Hayden Moore starting quarterback

After Camp Higher Ground ended head coach Tommy Tuberville picked his starting quarterback heading into the 2016 season. Redshirt sophomore got the nod over senior Gunner Kiel and redshirt freshman Ross Trail.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville made a hard decision before the beginning of the season in naming redshirt sophomore Hayden Moore the starting quarterback going into the 2016 football season. In the practices I saw, Moore looked solid and more comfortable leading the team. I personally thought Gunner Kiel was going to be named starter and went on record saying that in a few podcasts. I was wrong #BearcatNation, but Moore showed flashes last season and you can't be mad at him going in this direction.

I wouldn't be shocked if the first game against UT Martin that all Moore, Kiel and Ross Trail play. Give us your thoughts in the message board thanks.

University of Cincinnati signal caller Hayden Moore (Clay, Ala./Clay-Chalkville) has been named the Bearcats starting quarterback, Head Coach Tommy Tuberville announced Monday.

UC opens its 2016 season on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at 7 p.m. ET against UT Martin inside historic Nippert Stadium.

“Hayden was our most consistent quarterback from spring football all the way through training camp,” Tuberville said. “He gives us the best chance to win right now. Gunner Kiel and Ross Trail will continue to battle for the backup QB spot, but it’s important all three be ready to play when we kick this thing off in 10 days. It’s important to us to name a starter now so Hayden has some time working exclusively with the first-team offense to continue to develop timing and a comfort level with our offensive skill players.”

Moore, a redshirt sophomore, saw action in eight games last year, throwing for 1,683 yards and eight TDs. He led the Bearcats to a 34-23 win over Miami (Fla.) in his first career start. Moore finished with 279 yards passing and was responsible for three scores, two through the air and one on the ground. He also started games at BYU and against San Diego State in the Hawai‘i Bowl.
