School has finally started back up for the University of Cincinnati and if you’ve been on campus at all last week or this week you can sense a positive and upbeat energy going around campus. I’m not sure if it’s because the record breaking class of freshman (almost 7,000 students) are super excited to be in college, if it’s because we’re at the Hottest College in America, if it’s because football season is upon us, or maybe it’s all of the above, but the energy can definitely be felt across campus. I think mostly everyone would agree though, that the fact that football season is almost here is enough to put everyone in an upbeat and positive mood.
If you are a fan of football, like me, then you too are extremely excited for the Bearcats first game on Thursday! The Bearcats take on the UT-Martin Skyhawks, this will be their first time meeting. The Bearcats are coming off a rocky 2015 season, recording 7 wins and 6 losses. The Skyhawks recorded 7 wins and 4 losses and are looking to build off last season’s success. The Bearcats is the better team in this matchup, but should not take this game lightly; the Skyhawks is no stranger to playing top tier competition.
I expect the seats to be packed Thursday night, and as of now there is no rain in the weather forecast. The Bearcats will bring out their all white helmets and uniform and the fans are expected to wear all white as well; don’t be that one oddball wearing black or red.
If you, your friends or family are looking to have some fun before kickoff, there’s plenty to do. The Naked Karate Girls will be performing at the Grid, which is the Bearcats official tailgating area. This year the University of Cincinnati department of athletics partnered with Pepsi for a five pre-game Football concert series in the tailgate area. There will also be a Bearcats Fan Zone where fans can enjoy inflatables, food, and much more. And of course fans have the opportunity to participate in the UC tradition, the CATWALK. Not sure what that is? It’s your chance to fire up the football team as they pass through the tailgate on their way to Nippert Stadium. You’ll be joined by the cheerleaders and the marching band. It’s a great opportunity to see the players before their big game and help cheer them on!
If you haven’t purchased your ticket yet, that’s okay, there are still tickets available, but be sure to get them today! Gather up your friends and family and head over to Nippert Stadium Thursday night and help cheer on your Bearcats as they take on UT-Martin.
Show up, wear white, and be loud….Go Bearcats!
