Cole Smith, a high school senior at Middletown High School, made his pledge to Tommy Tuberville and the University of Cincinnati in late June. Cole has always wanted to attend the University of Cincinnati, so receiving that offer letter really meant a lot to him. "Receiving the offer from Cincinnati meant the world to me," said Cole "to see all the time and hard work finally pay off." Smith didn't have any other offers, but he attended quite a few camps, including a Bearcats camp and they were very impressed with what they saw.
As excited as Smith is to come down to Clifton next year, he has just started his senior year at Middletown and is looking to finish strong. Although his team hasn't gotten off to a great start this season, personally Smith has been doing well on the field, hitting all of his field goal attempts and PAT attempts. His goal is to make 1st team all state this season, and at the rate he is going, he can definitely accomplish that goal.
Thursday's visit wasn't Cole's first time being at Nippert. Last season he attended many games with his family, but now officially being a future Bearcat, the visit meant that much more to him. "It was an awesome experience," Cole said. He loves the atmosphere, really likes the coaches, and being less than a hour away from home really sealed the deal for him.
Being a kid who doubted his ability to play division one football just a year ago, now he's preparing to join the Bearcat family next year. Smith sets a great example for all; never give up on your dreams!
We look forward to welcoming Smith and can't wait to see him on the field or in the Linder College of Business.
