Bearcat Insider takes another look at the Purdue Boilermakers

Bearcat Insider already took a dive into the Purdue Boilermakers offense and defense. Now it is time for BCI to look at the head coach and special teams. We are doing everything to get you prepared for a big road game for the Bearcats.

First, I want to say if you didn’t check out our post about the Boilermakers offense and defense go check that out. At worst case scenario you will have a depth chart to reference on Saturday. Now we take a dive into the head coach and special teams unit for this program.

Head Coach

Darrell Hazell currently has his Boilermakers sitting at 1-0 heading into the Bearcats game. Hazell is in his 4th season leading the program and is currently sporting a 7-30 record overall and 2-22 in the Big Ten during that period. He had a great run at Kent State, but currently it has been rough in West Lafayette.

Special Teams

Freshman J.D. Dellinger is the kicker for the Boilermakers. Dellinger is current 1 of 2 for the season in field goal attempts. He is also 6 of 6 for extra point attempts.

Sophomore punter Joe Schopper had 5 punts that averaged 42.6 yards, a long of 57 yards and 1 inside the 20 (yard line).

The main punt and kick returner is one man and that man is junior running back Malik Kimbrough. Kimbrough had 3 kick returns last week that averaged 25.3 yards and a long of 36 yards. On the punt return side he had 2 returns for -6 yards. I know it is only one game, but 25.3 yards per return is nothing to sneeze at hopefully the Bearcats stay discipline on Saturday.
